PROFILE OF

THE RT. REVD. OKECHUKWU PRECIOUS NWALA, DSSRS (JUSTICE OF THE PEACE)

 

The Rt. Revd. Okechukwu Precious Nwala, JP the Anglican Bishop of Etche Diocese was born on 17th November 1971, to the family of Sir Chief Simon Oguzie Nwala (Justice of the Peace), and Lady Mary O. Nwala of Ekpeledo Umueleochie Ulakwo 2, in the present Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He attended University of Port Harcourt and Imo State
University, Owerri for his post graduate studies and the University of Nigeria,
Nsukka for his first degree.  For his
theological and pastoral studies, he attended St. Paul’s University College
Awka (now Paul University), Anambra State. 
He obtained a master Degree in Religion (MA, Old Testament), a Post
Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), a Bachelor’s degree in Religion (BA
Hon.), and a Diploma in Theology (Dip.TH). 
For Post Primary and Primary schools he attended Central school Ulakwo
and Community secondary school Ulakwo all in Etche Local Government Area of
Rivers State.

 

 

While in school he was the deputy senior and social prefect
and at the tertiary institution the Vice President of the students union as
well as the Vice President of the Anglican student fellowship.

 

He founded the New Covenant Foundation outreach in 1991 and
eventually went into full time missionary work in 1993.  He had worked in many parts of Etche, Ogoni,
Eleme and Port Harcourt before being seconded to Cameroun in 2002 as a
missionary Priest.  While in Cameroun he
was the Diocesan Missioner for the Anglican Church in Cameroun and championed
the establishment of many new Churches which contributed to the upgrading of
the area to a Diocese.

 

He was ordained Deacon in 1999, made Priest in 2001,
preferred Canon in 2006 and elected Bishop for the new Diocese of Etche Anglican
Communion in 2007 while still in Cameroun. 
He was consecrated Bishop at the Cathedral Church of Advent, Gwarimpa,
Abuja on Sunday 4th March, 2007 and enthroned together with the
inauguration of the Diocese on Monday 19th March, 2007.

Rt. Revd. Okechukwu Precious Nwala, JP is a passionate
missionary with apostolic mandate. On resumption of duty as the pioneer Bishop
of Etche Diocese, there were 55 Anglican Churches in Etche land, 19 Parishes
and 2 Archdeaconries.  As at today through
his dynamic missionary leadership there are at least 118 Stations, 36 Parishes
and 18 Archdeaconries/Deaneries.  There
are also trainings and workshops that have boosted human capacity development
among the Clergy and laity of the Diocese, with a serious infrastructural
revolution at the centre and in all the Archdeaconries/Deaneries that
constitute the Diocese.

 

He is the founder and Chairman of Board of Trustees of the
New Covenant Faith Foundation, an NGO incorporated in Nigeria which seeks to
render community and humanitarian services such as scholarships, grants,
Bursary, and welfare assistance to widows, orphans and other needy
persons.  They also aim at carrying out
public awareness, youth orientation and children Bible clubs especially for
rural children.

 

He has championed peace building between persons and
communities in Etche, free medical services and community deliverance programs
to the admiration of many.  He is the Co-ordinator
of Etche Deliverance Prayer Network and had been Chairman of Christian Association
of Nigeria, Etche Local Government Area.

 

He has received many awards in recognition to his humanitarian services, they include:

1.    Award of merit – Scripture Union Nigeria – 2007

2.    Youth Ambassador for peace by the Universal Peace Federation and Youth Federation for
world Peace – 2008

3.    Ambassador of Okomoko Etche – 2008

4.    Merit award for commitment and support for peace, progress, unity and spiritual
wellbeing of Etche land by the Etche America Foundation – 2010

5.    Meritorious award by Ulakwo/Umuselem Youth Movement 
–  2016

He is married to Dr. Mrs. Precious Onyinye Okey-Nwala
(Justice of the Peace), and together they are blessed with children.
